The answer to that is determined by a couple main factors: 

1. The integrity of your hair prior to the service

2. The type of coloring service to be performed

If you have healthy hair and no previous chemical treatments or damage most coloring services will not effect the integrity of your hair. However, if you have previously colored or permed your hair then you will want to discuss with your stylist the least damaging options for your hair.

Some color services, such as Fashion color, often involve a multi-step process that can be more damaging to the hair shaft. Always discuss with a stylist before the service the best pre and aftercare to maintain your color and keep hair as healthy as possible.

If you are concerned about damage, you might prefer to go with a gloss or a demi-permanent color that can enhance your natural hues without chemicals.

While coloring your hair does involve chemicals, those chemicals generally won't cause hair loss. 

They can however cause hair breakage--particularly if the hair has been previously chemically processed. It's always a good idea to discuss any color service with your stylist and make your decisions based on the integrity of your hair and the recommendations of your stylist. 

Aftercare of colored hair is important as well. Be sure you are using recommended hair products specially designed for use on chemically treated hair.

This generally depends on the amount of grey coverage you desire, the amount of grey hair you have in relation to your natural color, and the "tone" of the grey on the scale (is it closer to white, or closer to dark grey?).

If you have just a few grey hairs you might opt for an all over color or highlight to blend the grey.

If you have a lot of grey that is closer to white and your natural color is dark you may want to opt for a  weave that blends the colors together more naturally and avoid that hard regrowth line.

Glosses and toners can brighten dull grey and blend it more naturally if you're not trying to hide it completely.
